1) The "tarydium shard" projectiles it fires are 38 damage a pop. That means in approximately 90% of all DM cases you have a guaranteed kill in 3 shots.
2) This secondary fire is one of the few in the game that cause your prey to be "pushed" (usually in the direction you're firing). This provides an excellent strategy in several cases.
First: you can literally push your opponent over/into cliff edges, bio-pools, or any environmental hazard in the map that would cause instant death. There are other weapons one can push with, but because of it's fire-rate and distinct rhythm the secondary fire on this minigun is the most dependable of them.
Second, in the middle of an intense situation with more than two skilled opponents, you can generally buy yourself that extra split-second you need by slamming the lesser intimidating one across the arena or into a wall.
*The "push" strategy is best utilized in low-grav, as difficulty increases significantly in normal DMs.
Note: The secondary fire on the minigun is "slow". While this is true, it has a distinct rhythm that you should learn. For those who love to empty out the rounds in one go (as I do): if you begin to miss your opponent(s) successively, this is because they've out-stepped (or you've mis-started) the rhythm of your firing. Stop firing for a second, gage their movement, and start banging that thing again!
Technical Brief:
Primary fire Type: Hitscan Damage: 14 (vs vehicles: 8) (vs nodes: 8) Fire rate: 11.0/s Spread: 3.9° Warmup: 5 shots
Secondary fire Type: Projectile Damage: 38 (vs vehicles: 22) (vs nodes: 22) Fire rate: 3.9/s Ammo cost: 2
i always used the primary, i dont know what it was, but this gave me reasons to use the second fire on it, so cool, good topic duxxx, and @rckymtndrgn i never thought about it that way.
Secondary is better i think, it rattles players when you shoot them throwing their return fire off, and if your accurate you can finish them off quickly. Its far less efficient if you are playing low grav as it will shoot your opponent across the map. While engaged with quad damage in low grav the primary can be useful.
i actually favor primary=]...believe it or not its a really good long range weapon peels off alot of health quick especially the belt even up close..secondary sure is beast too tho!
I also primarily use secondary for the stinger. I use primary fire if opponent has very low health, it deals less damage but its easier to hit enemy, get rid of em quick.
Which do you guys prefer for the stinger, primary or secondary fire? i prefer to use the secondary, but i wanted to hear some reasons to use the primary.
